Musings
Matthew and I have now been together for four years. It doesn't seem that long and yet seems much longer than that, all at once. Fulfilling. That is really the best term that can be applied to it. *shakes head* Four years ago, at this moment, I was at my second - first fully attended - DT open house. Mostly hanging around Hetal, as I remember. And now . . . wow. Just wow.

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night.
The photograph on the dashboard, taken years ago,
Turned around backwards so the windshield shows.
Every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse.
Still, it's so much clearer.
I forgot my shirt at the water's edge.
The moon is low tonight.
Nightswimming deserves a quiet night.
I'm not sure all these people understand.
It's not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water.
They cannot see me naked.
These things, they go away,
Replaced by everyday.
Nightswimming, remembering that night.
September's coming soon.
I'm pining for the moon.
And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?

You're a Narrative writer!
What kind of writer are you?

*sniffs* Well, if they don't want to know that the hills are carpeted with a sultry shade of green, blown by a warm breeze that wafts tales of lazy, sun-washed summer days, they don't have to read it, do they? :)

New Glasses
My old ones finally broke Sunday night. I'd been needing a new perscription anyway. Apparently, my right eye stayed the same (near perfect) and my left eye (always a problem) got worse. Anyway, this is the result.

Montreat
Montreat is not just a place -
it is a state of mind,
a state of grace.
A high valley surrounded by
tall, graceful, old mountains,
its life is nurtured along streams
which flow through a sparkling lake
and out into the rivers and the oceans.
Its life is also nurtured by high springs of faith
which have cascaded through generations
to pour out into community, church, and world
a lively sense of believing as belonging
to a family which is deeply relational,
yet limitlessly extended.
Its currents of committment have been carried forward
by memories of childhood, youth, and old age;
by laughter, hikes, picnics, and square dances;
by spiritual heights of conferences, retreats, and worship;
by reunions of all sorts - form families to global communions.
It serves to recall for us all that church is family,
not just genetic, nor nuclear family,
but global family.
Scripture calls it "the household of God,"
and so we are.
Of this deep truth, Montreat is a faithful reminder.
For a century, now, it has overflowed its mystical force
into homes and churches, schools, and hospitals,
places of need and of care.
Like a mountain stream it moves on,
always changing and yet, somehow, always the same.
For those who have loved it for a lifetime,
as for those for whom it is a fresh discovery,
its elemental effect has been to guide -
in courses sometimes quiet, sometimes turbulent -
toward Him who is the water of life.

Recordari
Haven't been posting much here lately. I'm not sure why. I have been updating my wedding planning journal, but nothing else. Been a bit busy with other stuff, I guess, though I can't think what. Work is going . . . well, going at least. And Matthew and I still haven't picked a photographer, though we have started work on our save the dates. And we've started weight watchers, except without the meetings. I've been forming new resolutions to go out and see more of the city, but we've just been working so much lately we haven't had a chance. Watched a beautiful thunderstorm over the capitol last night from our balcony; will post pictures (taken with the assitance of Matthew's newest thrift store purchase: a five dollar tripod) eventually.
Um . . . yeah. That's why I haven't been posting lately. Not much to say.

*does dance of joy*
In some number of days (300!), I will be getting married to my best friend. I will be surrounded by friends and family, all of whom I love and who love me.
Not only is this cause for giddy excitement, it warms me to the depths of my soul.
I just thought I'd let you know.

You are Ravenclaw! You ponder. You think about
stuff. You tend to remain neutral. You are
probably a geek, but at least you're not a
bloody Gryffindor, right?
