*Howl*
I just finished reading a book about a young Indian woman . . . and now I miss Hetal so much I can hardly stand it. So I vent here, instead of calling her, because of my stupid inferiority complex. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

*POING*
I just saw a rumor that AtE was going to be updated tonight . . . Constant Vigilance, my minions . . . .
Update: It's there, all right. Hmph. No good, no good at all. I was hoping for some good H/G lovin' to take my mind of off the CRAX i discovered last night. But there was none. No lovin' at all. For anybody. Ever. (well, maybe a little R/S. but not in a good way.)

Wedding Planning Update
-No, we do not have a date.
-Yes, we have a budget. It is depressing.
-No, we have finalized neither our guest list (mostly my fault) nor our attendants (mostly Matthew's fault).
-No, we have not even picked a place. There are three strong possibilities, as follows:
Montreat, NC. We'd love to get married here, but we're encountering resistance from relatives for whom it would be more expensive. If we do get married here, it could be in the Chapel of the Prodigal or maybe Gaither Chapel. We'd like to be able to cram everyone in a few houses while we're up there, thus increasing the sillyness and merriment potential.
LaGrange, GA. If we got married in LaGrange, it'd probably be somewhere on the shores of West Point Lake. Maybe.
The DC area. This is the least likely option, in my opinion, but we've considered several times as it would de-complicate planning logistics. If we got married up here, it would probably either be at our church or Gary Memorial United Methodist in Patapsco Valley State Park.
We have considered other places - Jacksonville and Atlanta among them - but they're less likely. We promise, we'll let you know.
-The dress has not been decided upon, as I love the excuse to try them on, but this is my current favorite (the embroidery would be in color in my actual dress). Here is a back view, and a silly paintshop rendering of it I did to pass the time. I have also become fixated on the idea of blue shoes. I'll probably be making the veil myself; it will be a waltz length drop veil out of either English net or silk chiffon.
-We have decided on our officiants, but as we have not yet spoken to them about it (one more thing that's waiting on a definite date), I won't post their names yet. We haven't found anyone for pre-marital counseling yet, and we're feeling the lack of our pastor in Atlanta. :(
-A photographer is, obviously, rather place dependant, but we've fallen in love with the work of Audrey Goforth. Unfortunately, our bet is that she is out of our price range. In addition to a professional photographer, we may be asking an old school friend of mine to augment the professional photography (and of course there will be those ubiquitous one-time-use cameras everywhere). I've also thought about asking another talented friend to produce some sort of drawing/painting of some point in the day (this idea is still somewhat nebulous, as you can tell).
Other things we've talked about are either so minor or still so up in the air that they're not worth posting, at least right now.
Now it's back to work for me . . . :-/

I have 87 million things I need to do for school, and 87 things I need to do at home.
Consequently, I'm bored.

Darn It
I just visited Sid and AM's wedding page. (They probably wouldn't appreciate me stalking it, as I almost certainly will not be invited to the wedding, but whatever.) Now I'm all jealous, and want to get married RIGHT NOW.
Sigh.

My Tumultuous Day
Saw a stage. Wanted terribly to climb on it. This sparked a large bout of homesickness and general dissatisfaction. (Okay, so this really happened yesterday. What happened today was that I saw Hugh's LJ, (which, by the way, is infinitely more interesting and less mastubatory (mastubatory is the word of the day. but I don't know if I'm spelling it correctly.) than mine (I think I've lost count of my parentheses)) and, in skimming it, I saw a post he made about his desire to get back into acting. I want to make the same post, but in my own words, so I've refrained from reading his.)
Worried about a friend. Worried about my own life in relation to that friend. Tried to turn my own experiences into advice, which isn't going to work out that well, I already know.
Sat through approxiamately four hours of listening to people argue about the socioeconomic influences on and within science as a whole. Decided that one day I will write a book entitled The Blind Men and The Elephant: Scientific Endeavors in the Twentieth Century. It will be a very boring book, but people will buy it, because carrying it around will make them look smart.
Helped Marie work out a design issue with her veil, while complaining about my lab. This was the most unadulterated fun of the day.
Watched as heliocopters buzzed the campus. Found out later there'd been a shooting out by where I park. Decided that because of that and because it was now raining, I would ride the bus over to my car. This turned out to be a mistake, and cost me an hour of my life. Who knew it could possibly take that long to confirm that yes, indeed, the bus does now have a flat tire, and no, none of us are hurt. Sigh.
Came home to find out that my access card does not work in the door down by where I park. When I (after walking around the building in the rain) complain to the the front desk, they inform me that the memory card in just that door is full. Not any of the other doors, just the one by where I park. They tell me a call has been put in, but no they don't know when this will be fixed. Could be weeks.
I feel a little better now, though.

Update
It's four-thirty. I have now been awake for just under an hour. The birds outside have just woken up and begun their day by competing to see who can chirp the loudest. I can't close the window (not that it would block out the sound anyway), because it's approxiamately 150 degrees F (hah, like I'm going to try to spell *that* at this hour of the morning) in here.
Sigh.

Going to sleep early to try to get some much needed rest is sort of negated by waking up at four in the morning and not being able to go back to sleep.

Tortured Ugandan Political Prisoner Wishes Uganda Had Oil
KAMPALA, UGANDA—A day after having his hands amputated by soldiers backing President Yoweri Museveni's brutal regime, Ugandan political prisoner Otobo Ankole expressed regret Monday over Uganda's lack of oil reserves. "I dream of the U.S. one day fighting for the liberation of the oppressed Ugandan people," said Ankole as he nursed his bloody stumps. "But, alas, our number-one natural resource is sugar cane." Ankole, whose wife, parents, and five children were among the 4,000 slaughtered in Uganda's ethnic killings of 2002, then bowed his head and said a prayer for petroleum.

Today is Tuesday
. . . just so you know.
My life has been incredibly uninteresting lately. A bout of homesickness here and there, lots of grading, even more procrastinating when I should be grading, and a side dish of complaining about random things. Nothing much to blog about.
I went to talk to Dinman Friday. I'm finally officially part of the lab. :) I didn't sign a contract or anything (that will come at the end of summer), but I did get my thesis project outlined for me. Also, it looks like my salary won't go down too much, so that is good. Maybe it will give me the motivation to finish unpacking . . . . nah.
Am sick of chocolate. Went to a post-Lenten party at a friend's house - his wife had given up chocolate for Lent, so everyone brought some and we watched the movie Chocolat and pigged out at midnight. I don't want to see chocolate again, for a long time.
Not getting very far on the wedding, or the losing weight for the wedding. (see above). Things will pick up in the summer, I think, once we decide on a place. Which reminds me, I need to talk to Dinman today about when I'll be taking my qualifiers.
See? Not so interesting, even to me.

Pouting
"The encyclical also forbids Catholics and Protestants from taking Communion together, except in rare circumstances."
I have a feeling my wedding does not qualify as a "rare circumstance." (well it is in the sense that it's mine; it's not in the sense that it's a wedding) But I want Kevin and John and whomever else that wants to to be able to take Communion at my wedding. I don't know why it bothers me so much, exactly. I've always been mostly fine with not being allowed to take Communion in a Catholic church, and I'm more than fine with Hetal not taking Communion at my wedding. But this bothers me, for some reason.
More later, when I've had time to figure out why this bothers me so much. :-(

You are a descriptive writer. An avid reader of
Robert Frost, perhaps, you LOVE to use flowery
words and use the paper and pen as your canvas
and paintbrush. You prefer to paint a mental
image rather than simply toy around with
people's minds. A very inspired person, you
love to be in nature and usually are a very
outdoorsy type of person. A writer with a
natural green thumb, perhaps?
What's YOUR Writing Style?
brought to you by Quizilla
Yup. That would be me. Except for the green thumb. Unless by green thumb they mean "thumb of death that manages to make even cacti wither."

Just So You Know
Hoeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! You're a Magical Girl!
You're sugar-hyped, caffeine-hyped, and permanently genki-er than a whole busload of Disney characters on crack. You eat too much, you're a total klutz, and somehow this makes you an ideal candidate for saving the world. If you're really unlucky, you get to get naked in an embarrassing transformation sequence in every single episode, with only a few sparkles and pastel blobs to cover your dignity.
Which generic anime character are you?
Yay for sparkles and pastel blobs, I say.

From The Onion
"At this difficult time, President Bush needs my support. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld needs my support. General Tommy Franks needs my support. It is not my function as a citizen in a participatory democracy to question our leaders. And to exercise my constitutional right—nay, duty—to do so would be un-American."
